Event Recap: “SEO Without the Overwhelm” at the Women’s Leadership Conference
There is no better way to spend a morning than meeting new entrepreneur friends, connecting with old entrepreneur friends, and learning tons of incredible new things from other industry leaders. And that’s just what we did at the Women’s Leadership Conference in Westerville, OH today!

Breakfast Speaker
We kicked off the morning hearing from fashion brand development expert Lubna Najjar. Although she didn’t wear a hot pink today (IYKYK) she had all the fierce energy of a woman in a hot pink suit. Her story about being unapologetically YOU is just what I needed to be reminded of at this point in my journey as a business owner.
Sometimes I see other marketing agencies and think, “maybe we need to tame down our weirdness and be more corporate, maybe we’re scaring clients away with our moody/witchy branding.” But Lubna’s speech was spot on—you should not “wear beige and gray” just to fit in with others, and Emerald will continue to be authentic to ourselves.
Breakout Sessions
Then it was time to head off to our breakout sessions. Team Emerald was up in the first batch of sessions with “SEO Without the Overwhelm: A Step by Step Guide for Leaders.” We had a whopping 67 people registered for our session! We covered the 5 steps every SEO strategist should take if they want their SEO to work harder:
Step #1 - Audit
Step #2 - Research
Step #3 - Optimize
Step $4 - Localize
Step #5 - Measure
We talked about some of my favorite tools to use for audits and keyword research, as well as the important of a Google Business Profile, Google Analytics 4, and Google Search Console.
After my session was over, I headed over to Andrea Larsen’s session about Marketing + AI: The Future of Digital Campaigns. The things you can do with AI are insane—Andrea showed us everything from how to create headshots and videos to how you can use AI for your marketing and reporting workflow.
Andrea’s agency is doing some really cool things with AI in their marketing campaigns for clients, and it was a pleasure to get to hear about how others in my industry are implementing this tool into their craft.
Closing Out the Day
Women in Columbus have SO MUCH KNOWLEDGE in their fields. I really feel like I lucked out getting to start my business here, and I’m always amazed by the things my peers are doing with their businesses. I left the conference with my mind racing full of ideas, but more importantly, I left feeling grateful for the community of entrepreneurs I have all around me. Cheers to the WLC and I can’t wait to attend the conference next year!
