Event Recap: SEO 101 with NAWBO Columbus

You know it was a good workshop when everyone hangs out to chat with each other for 30 minutes after the workshop is over!

Today I had the pleasure of leading a workshop for NAWBO Columbus titled SEO 101: Get Your Business Discovered Online at the lovely Haven Collective in Upper Arlington. I love teaching small groups like the one we had today (as opposed to very large groups) because everyone gets comfortable, personalities start to come out, and inevitably, the session feels more like a conversation with friends.

The TL/DR Recap

We started with the basics: the relationship between SEO and GEO (that’s generative engine optimization) and how Google crawls, indexes, and ranks your site. We also talked through what’s happening with technical SEO—things like loading speed, clean links, and optimized metadata.

But the real magic happens after those basics are covered.

I introduced the group to the concept of content clusters, showing how strategic blog content can build topical authority. Of course, we talked about how Google’s Helpful Content Update rewards people-first content.

Some key takeaways I shared:

  • Your blog is a hack for visibility—especially when you create content that solves real problems for your audience.

  • Local SEO matters. Including your city or service area in your web copy and optimizing your Google Business Profile can help you show up in the coveted map pack.

I’m so grateful to NAWBO Columbus for creating space for women in business to connect, learn, and grow! I left the workshop energized and inspired by the incredible women who showed up to learn something new and take action in their businesses. Can’t wait for the next one!
